    Amana brand is founded by George Foerstner in Middle Amana, Iowa.

  • 1947

    Manufactured the first DeepFreeze® upright freezer for the home.

  • 1949

    Introduced the first side-by-side refrigerator.

  • 1954

    The first to patent a self-defrost refrigerator.

  • 1957

    Introduced the first bottom-freezer refrigerator.

  • 1967

    Brought the first consumer microwave to the market — the Radarange® microwave.

  • 1988

    Introduced the first 24-inch-deep freestanding refrigerator.

  • 1992

    Introduced the first clothes dryer with a stainless steel drum.

  • 2001

    First refrigerator with The Messenger built-in messaging center.

  • 2006

    The first in the U.S. to introduce antimicrobial component protection in top-load washers.

  • 2007

    Brought Jot® refrigerator to market, the first refrigerator with a dry-erase surface.

  • 2009

    Partnership with Thom Filicia launched a series of colorful refrigerators.

  • 2011

    Amana brand introduces hung-strut suspension, making upper-floor installation possible for front-load laundry pairs.

    New, streamlined logo unveiled to reinforce simplicity, quality and value.
